TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN

Children 13 years of age and younger do not need to appear at the Consular Section in person unless they are applying for a student visa to the U.S.

For all cases involving children under 16, both parents should be present at the interview with the following documents for the child:

  1. General Application Package
  2. Child’s birth certificate
  3. Internal passports for both parents

NOTE: Children may travel either with:

  • Their own child travel document, or
  • The parent’s international passport in which the child is registered. This passport may be used ONLY IF the passport holder is traveling with the child.

If only one parent is present, you must bring an original or a copy of the other parent’s passport and one of the following documents:

  1. Notarized statement from the second parent giving permission for the child to travel to the U.S, or
  2. Death certificate of the deceased parent; or
  3. Evidence that the parent who is not traveling with the child has been denied parental rights.
