On January 24-25, 2013 Ivan Franko National University of L’viv hosted a two-day professional development conference for Ukrainian teachers supported and organized by the RELO office in Kyiv in conjunction with the university Academic Writing Center and  L’viv City Council.

The conference, one of the largest of its kind to ever be hosted in Ukraine, was entitled “Empowering and Inspiring EFL Teachers: Practical Advice for the Classroom.”  27 English Language Fellows, professionally trained American teachers and teacher trainers who currently work in Eastern Europe, Caucasus region, and Russia, presented workshops and shared their teaching experience at the conference on a variety of themes that included, among others, technology in the classroom, teaching young learners, assessment, English for Specific Purposes, and culture and learning. In addition to the Fellows, 10 Ukrainian teachers were also invited to present at the conference. More than 260 teachers from Moldova, Belarus, and 17 regions in Ukraine traveled to L’viv to participate. This conference was a great opportunity for teachers from the region to interact with professional American educators and gave Ukrainian presenters valuable experience to present and share what they are doing in their own classrooms as well.
