Special Information for Belarusian Applicants

Every person applying for a U.S. visa at the U.S. Consular Section in Kyiv, Ukraine, needs to schedule his/her visa interview by contacting our Visa Information service (call center) at +38-044-207-70-71 (when calling from Ukraine or Belarus), or at 1-888-889-3780 (when calling from the U.S.). Currently, all the appointment slots for the nearest weeks are booked and, unfortunately, we are not able to add additional appointments at this time. All the interview slots for Summer Work and Travel Program participants are also taken. To learn about the next available date for a visa interview, please contact our Visa Information Service.

Please note that we return passports with issued visas via a courier service. According to the Ukrainian law, it is prohibited to send passports by mail across international borders. Therefore, all successful applicants need an address in Ukraine to which their passports can be sent.

Please note that our Consular phone operator hours are from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Important information for visa applicants

U.S. Embassy Kyiv's Consular Section wishes to remind applicants that additional administrative processing is often required for individuals involved in scientific or technical fields of work or study. This requirement most often affects students, researchers, and exchange visitors. Please click here for information on what you should bring to the interview if you think you may be subject to the additional processing requirement. In all cases, we try to complete any additional processing as soon as possible. However, some cases take a significant amount of time to complete. We urge all applicants, particularly those involved in scientific or technical fields, to apply for your visa as early as possible so as to minimize disruption to your travel plans. Unfortunately, in most cases the possibility that your visa may be subject to additional processing will not be considered an emergency for the purpose of granting expedited business appointments.

What is a visa?A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A visa entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission. It does not guarantee entry. An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States and their length of stay.
Who needs a visa?Ukrainian citizens, like citizens of many countries, require a visa to enter the United States, unless they qualify under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Types of visasNon-Immigrant Visas are for people with permanent residence outside the United States, but who wish to go to the U.S. on a temporary basis - for tourism, business, medical treatment, temporary work, or study.

Immigrant Visas are required by anyone seeking to take up indefinite or permanent residence in the United States. Upon entry into the United States, an immigrant visa holder is processed for a Permanent Resident Card (I-551), commonly known as a Green Card. Refugee petitionsAll refugee petitions for residents of Ukraine are processed through the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
Diversity Visa LotteryThe Congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
